So I decided, while the whole world gives you opinions and other witty one liner, I have to make sure to put a smile back on your face before you go to sleep. For that, am going to use sports, not exactly that but funny clicks in sports. Players always exhibit a wide range of emotions during a game, and a single click at the most opportune moment is a capture that can evoke bouts of laughter (especially if you don’t know the context) So sit back, scroll through and enjoy that smile. This image by Carter appeared in presses all over the world and became a lasting symbol of how famines can wreak havoc, and how much the people facing it need help. Photographer Kevin Carter had committed suicide over the fact that he wasn’t allowed to help the dying child waited on by a Vulture. Sometimes, a Pulitzer Prize is something you don’t want to get on something as depressing as that.

Reported 1300 dead in Chemical attack in Syria

In what is a new low in the Syrian Civil war happening over 2 years now, reports are coming in that the Syrian Government reportedly used poison gas on its own citizens. Estimated death toll is reported to be in 1300's. If the toll comes out true, this will be the worst poison gas causalities in the last 25 years since Saddam Hussein used it against the Kurds in 1988.

Bodies of people activists say were killed by nerve gas in the Ghouta region are seen in the Duma neighborhood of Damascus. 

The Syrian government meanwhile denies doing anything of that sort saying that it won't do it against its own citizens "even if it had it". The UN team is on its way to the site as this is been updated. Western Nations including the UK have called for n emergency security council meeting while Syria's closest allies expressed 'concern' but said it was skeptic of the claims.

Images and videos coming out of the site show many of the casualties are women and children. They arrived with their pupils constricted, cold limbs and foam in their mouths. The doctors say these are typical symptoms of nerve gas victims.

To be noted is that Syria is one of just a handful of countries that are not parties to the international treaty that bans chemical weapons, and western nations believe it has caches of undeclared mustard gas, Sarin and VX nerve agents.

Timing of the allegations though are surprising given that a team of UN investigators just landed in the country 3 days ago and are yet to leave. "At the least, it wouldn't be very clever." said Rolf Ekeus, a retired Swedish diplomat who headed a team of UN weapons inspectors in Iraq in the 1990s.

Photographs that changed the world around you. Part- I

There are photographs that leave you influenced beyond comprehension. The adeptness and the virtual explanation of ‘A photograph can speak a thousand words’ comes alive take you in unarmed. I present my collection of 10 photographs over two parts and I hope you like it. Give all of them a moment on you so that you come to appreciate why it finds a place in the list. I would certainly like to know what you would add on to it in your list of photographs that changed your world as you know it to be. 

# The first photograph in the world

Taken as early as 1839 by Louis Daguerre, this photograph is of a wall, a chimney and a rooftop. Though not clear to be appreciated, this is in-fact the world’s first photograph. It is from where everything started. It a photo-sensitive plate a sheet of pewter coated in a mixture of bitumen, dissolved in lavender oil. Though not taken from a proper camera, it leads to invention of the daguerreotype, the first camera able to take photographs.

Pedophile in the Ranks?? : Indonesian Official proposes Virginity Tests

With the latest proposal by a government official in Indonesia, things are looking to go from bad to worse. The kind of indecent and completely scandalous stuff coming out of these ‘developing’ nations is a far cry and shame to the values and principles they endorse. South Asia and Middle East continues giving out shockers to the world through a set of shameless and unprincipled people who call themselves ‘Moral Police’. The Indonesian government official went a step further though and proposed a ‘Virginity Test’ for girls entering high school.

Whatever proposals they giving citing their high moral standards, I believe that no one, absolutely NO ONE, has the right to decide for someone else in the society when it comes to matters of personal choice. In that context the Indonesian proposal is downright frivolous and disgusting. A person has his/her own brains and should be allowed to decide stuff for themselves. Doing something to clearly get evidence to defame a person in the society is pathetic.

Even proposing such a thing just be crushed in the Bud.

This is a problem with not only developing countries, but in developed countries like US too. One official suggests this, not one other agrees with him, and everyone in the world starts  bleating about "barbaric" Muslims, when in the US states have actually *passed* laws requiring unnecessary yet mandatory trans-vaginal ultrasound tests for women who seek abortions. How is this not also barbaric? So, in short the problem isn't localized, it is more of a global thing that plagues us everywhere.

One of the most important stuff that is needed to know is that these kinds of proposals should invite severe action from some law or the other. I say this because to me personally, it smells of a pedophile in the ranks. Change has to be adopted and moved forward. Orthodoxy is a Dinosaur, which will eventually die out. The most important thing is to stop these people from occupying positions of influence where they love to peek into others’ lives or in Indonesian official’s case, their bodies.

Rakshabandhan: More of Farce and Less of Emotions??

Another year has passed and so did the last Rakshabandhan herald the arrival of another one this year. The confusion on the dates is peculiar enough for all kinds of opinions to come around on when to celebrate it. But guys are secretly rejoicing in the fact this time. No, don’t go charging to your brother and confirm this. He’ll deny it because telling it aloud would take away the sanctity of the festival.

So go on reading this, you’ll know precisely why guys love the confusion.

Whatever you may say or no matter how much you ignore this fact; Rakshabandhan isn't about brothers, sisters and the Rakhi anymore. It is now more about the sister tying the Rakhi and then putting out her palm for her gift.

Disgusting to read right?? But true all the same. If not, why would companies start selling chocolates as a gift to give to your sister?? Why would boys have to inevitably run to shops and scourge through for gifts?? And, the most important, why sisters would go up to their brother the days preceding Rakhi and ask- ‘Is the Gift ready?’

Doesn't this summarize what Rakhi has become to us?

I stopped getting Rakhi around my wrist from quite some time before except from my real sister. The reason is simple, no one, and I say NO ONE, except your real sisters care about the Brother-Sister relationship. It is all about getting those gifts or hard cash in. The essence of Rakhi is that even if the brother-sister isn't living around each other now, they send the Rakhi through the postal service. Now sit and think, remember that girl from school who was your closest sister? Or remember the guy who got a Rakhi from you in School? Did you receive/send a Rakhi this year? Or did you honor the promise of saving her from troubles 5 years later?
