Photographs that changed the world around you. Part- II

Photographs that changed the world around you Part 1 ended with the demolition of the Berlin Wall, an event that changed the globe and its political boundaries forever. If you have missed on it, check it out first here. Once you have done it, you'll appreciate going through this one more. This part continues from where I left off previously.

#Sudanese Child with Vulture

This image by Carter appeared in presses all over the world and became a lasting symbol of how famines can wreak havoc, and how much the people facing it need help. Photographer Kevin Carter had committed suicide over the fact that he wasn’t allowed to help the dying child waited on by a Vulture. Sometimes, a Pulitzer Prize is something you don’t want to get on something as depressing as that.

#The Naval Kiss at Times Square

One of the most iconic photograph of the end of World War 2, you would be disappointed to know that the story behind the picture isn’t as romantic as it seems. The story behind the image goes that this sailor had been running around the whole square kissing every girl in sight, whether it had been a Grandma or a young svelte woman like the one didn’t matter. This iconic pose remains a dream for many adolescent girls looking for their first kiss until you just read the above lines.

#Yes, Scientists have a funny bone too.

Had this photograph of Einstein not been clicked by Arthur Sasse who in fact was looking for a smile, we would have known this genius as another boring scientist who was well, a freaking genius.

#Gandhi on the Charkha

This photograph remains iconic due to its mass appeal and showing Gandhi in a completely different light. This is also one of the last photographs of Gandhi, who was assassinated two years later.

#Appreciation

This photograph by an unknown photographer makes well to do people understand how even the most basic things in life can be a joy for many around you. Rest, I would want you to just feel this picture in.

This finishes my series of Photographs that changed the world around you. If you liked going through it, I would encourage you to go through the other blogs and tell me your opinion about them too. Also, I would love to having your opinion about a few more iconic photographs I may have missed.

    1. Thanks for the appreciation Anonymous. (Would have loved to have a name there)
That is what I tried it to be, they have to be thought provoking enough to look around your world in a changed way. :)

  2. Really nice collection.
Each one has a unique story, history and emotion attached.

Though I was hoping Moon Landing & the Nat Geo Afgan Girl would be included.

But your collection is very justified !

    1. The Moon Landing missed out by a very narrow margin if you ask me. :)
Other outer space related stuff included the photograph of the earth from space. That would have had been amazing too. But then I thought they haven't changed the world around me strongly enough, I mean, moon is still far away while stars are still the 'Little Diamonds in The sky'.

The Nat Geo Afgan Girl was very impressive too, but again, i didn't feel it met the criteria. :)

Thanks for the amazing inputs though. Keep them coming. Would love it. :)
